The Sports Youth America Soccer Club (SYA) organizes two major programs — Challenge and Premier, both competitive soccer programs — which provide opportunities for youth ages 7 through 18 to participate in soccer at competitive level for their age, intensity and ability.

Challenge Program - U-8 and U-9

This Challenge Program will help any young player improve their soccer skills, understand the tactics and rules of the game, and improve particularly their teamwork. In order to join the Program, players (boys and girls) must attend a scheduled tryout.

• Emphasis on passing, dribbling, shooting, and other individual skills.
• U-8 teams - sharpen their team play in 7 V 7 game format
• U-9 teams - sharpen their team play in 9 V 9 game format
• Travel and tournaments within the local area during the summer and late fall.

Premier Program - U-10 to U-18

The Premier program, which comprises up to three teams, at each age from U10 to U18. The emphasis in the Premier Program is on individual skills development. Winning is important, but it is not the focus of play in the program; we are developing strong soccer players. Players are introduced to a high level of play and coaching at a young age, training at twice a week with a SYA professional Coach/trainer.
All players are placed on a team through a tryout process, based on their age, ability and athletic commitment. This process creates multiple teams at each age level and allows each player to be on a team that best suits his or her technical ability, desire, athletic ability and tactical knowledge at the time. We are very aware of player growth development cycles and feel that it is critical that players have appropriate levels within which to develop.
All SYA teams play in the Soccer Youth America Inter-State League against teams from other soccer clubs throughout Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C. and Maryland area.

• Professional training for all players
• Local, regional and national travel and tournaments
• Structured learning atmosphere
• Emphasis on love of the game, player relationships, and individual skills development

SYA teams usually practice one or two times a week and compete in one game each Saturday or Sunday during the season.

Practice and game locations are listed in “Field Locations”.
